Orlando Venture Capital, Inc. is focused on research conducted by the University of Central Florida’s Center of Research Education and Optical Lasers - CREOL, and the University of South Florida. Collectively, these two Universities employee 77 faculty members conducting optics related research (including such next generation materials as indium phosphide). Orlando Venture Capital, Inc. also addresses converging digital media where the simulation industry, driven by one of the largest concentrations of defense department spending (NAWCTSD and STRICOM), is cross-pollinating with the mass-marketing opportunities of the entertainment industry through the efforts of UCF's Institute for Simulation and Training and the National Center for Simulation. All of this is taking place less than 30 miles from the world center of the aerospace industry in and around Cape Kennedy whose R&D landscape includes NASA.

Presently, there exist few venture capital firms based in Central Florida and the industry trends over the last three years have not helped. However, Orlando Venture Capital, Inc. has an established foothold, while simultaneously, targeted efforts are underway by private and public entities to raise the recognition of future deal flow in the area. The State of Florida also stands poised to legislate that up to 1% of their $100 billion public pension funds managed by the Florida State Board of Administration be invested in Florida based private investment funds focused on early stage FL based high tech companies. It is expected that final language of the legislation, or administrative rule, will heavily favor Florida based Venture Capital companies. In summary, this public sector support creates a more diverse investor base to participate in future financing rounds of the companies emerging from the region.
